Description
DSD Smile Design Service
Product brief. DSD Smile Design is our aesthetic treatment-planning service: from the dentist’s facial and intraoral photos, we produce a facially-driven 2D smile simulation plus a 3D mock-up/wax-up design file — ready to print for the trial smile or to drive the final restorations. Delivered within 12–24 hours.
A smile case is won or lost at the presentation appointment. Our designers plan the smile the way the DSD concept intends: facial reference lines respected — midline, interpupillary line, facial midline harmony — tooth proportions set to the golden proportion and the patient’s face type, lip dynamics checked in smile and rest, and the result shown to the patient as a simulation they can actually picture themselves in. The dentist arrives at the consultation with a visual story, not a description.
What is included in every case
- 2D smile simulation — digital smile overlay on the patient’s own facial photo, for case presentation and consent
- 3D mock-up / wax-up design — print-ready files for the trial smile (milled or printed PMMA/resin)
- Facially-driven planning sheet — midline, smile line, tooth proportions and plane documented for the clinical team
- Veneer and crown design — full contour files carried through from the approved mock-up to the final restorations
- Revision rounds — adjust tooth shape, length or shade concept with the dentist before the patient visit
How the workflow runs
- 1. You send — facial photos (frontal at smile and rest, profile), intraoral scans or impressions, and the dentist’s aesthetic goals
- 2. We design — facial analysis, 2D simulation, and 3D mock-up file prepared against the reference lines
- 3. You present — the dentist shows the simulation, prints the mock-up for a trial smile, and gets case approval with confidence
- 4. We finalize — once the patient approves, the approved mock-up becomes the blueprint for the final veneer/crown design

What we need from you
- Facial photos: frontal at rest and full smile, profile (phone photos are acceptable if evenly lit)
- Intraoral scans or model scans (upper and lower, with bite registration)
- The dentist’s goals: tooth length/shape preferences, shade concept, any references the patient brought
Turnaround
Standard DSD Smile Design is returned within 12–24 hours of receiving complete photos and scans — consultation dates rarely have to move. Urgent case? Send it through with the appointment time and we will confirm the schedule before starting.
Why labs outsource DSD Smile Design to Odontalab
- Designers who plan from the face, not just the arch — the difference patients actually see
- Free unlimited minor revisions until the dentist approves the simulation
- The approved mock-up flows directly into final restoration design — no rework between stages
- One design partner for smile design, veneers and full-mouth cases — fewer vendors to manage
What is the difference between the 2D simulation and the 3D mock-up?
Can the approved mock-up be used for the final restorations?
Do the photos need to be professional quality?
How fast can a case be returned?
How do we send a case?
Have a smile case to present?
Send the photos and scans — we will return the simulation and mock-up files before the consultation.
