Description

Coping Design Service

Product brief. Coping Design is our core-substructure design service for single units and short spans. Your lab sends the scan with a marked margin line; our designers return a mill-ready coping — margin traced to your specification, cement space set for your material, and fit verified in software — within 12–24 hours.

The coping decides everything that follows: marginal integrity, ceramic support, occlusal clearance and emergence profile. Our designers treat it that way. Every coping is designed to the scan — not to a template — with margins traced edge-by-edge, cement space tuned to your fabrication material (zirconia, lithium disilicate, PFM alloy or full metal), and wall thicknesses held within proven minimums so your sintering or casting cycle stays predictable.

What is included in every case

  • Zirconia copings — single units and bridges, anatomical or bio-generic contour as you prefer
  • Full-metal copings — for PFM and full-cast workflows, with connector geometry set to alloy requirements
  • Screw-retained copings — multi-unit abutment level or abutment-level screw channels, angled access corrected where possible
  • Margin design — chamfer, shoulder, shoulderless or feather-edge traced to your die specification
  • Cement space management — material-appropriate spacer settings, with margin zone left tight per your lab’s protocol
  • Emergence profile — soft-tissue-adapted emergence on implant and prep cases for healthier peri-implant tissue

Designed for your fabrication workflow

We output open STL/EXO/3Shape files that drop straight into your CAM queue. Tell us your mill and zirconia or alloy system once, and we store the parameters against your account — spacer values, minimum thickness and connector rules — so every future coping arrives pre-configured for your line.

  • Compatible with exocad (DentalCAD) and 3Shape Dental System cases
  • Export formats: STL, EXO, 3SDX/DEXIS, plus PDF case documentation
  • Parameters matched to leading zirconia, glass-ceramic and alloy systems

What we need from you

  • Prep scan (or model scan) with a clearly marked margin line
  • Opposing arch and bite registration for occlusal clearance
  • Material choice and margin type — or simply your lab’s standing preferences on file

Turnaround

Standard coping design is returned within 12–24 hours of case receipt — single units often much sooner. Bridge and implant-supported copings are scheduled with your production calendar in mind. Urgent case? Send it through with your deadline and we will confirm the schedule before starting.

Why labs outsource coping design to Odontalab

  • Designers who trace margins case by case — no auto-generated margin lines left unreviewed
  • Free unlimited minor revisions until the design is approved
  • Consistent documentation your technicians can check in minutes, not hours
  • One design partner for copings, crowns, implants and splints — fewer vendors to manage
Do you design copings for zirconia and metal workflows?
Both — zirconia, lithium disilicate, PFM and full-cast. Cement space, minimum thickness and connector geometry are set to the material you fabricate with.
Can you design screw-retained copings on multi-unit abutments?
Yes. We design at multi-unit or abutment level, set the screw channel for your interface, and correct angled access where the implant position allows.
How do you handle unclear or short margins?
We flag them — never guess. Any ambiguous margin section is marked on the PDF documentation and returned to your team for confirmation before the design is finalized.
How fast can a case be returned?
Standard turnaround is 12–24 hours from receipt of complete records; single copings often come back sooner. Mark urgent cases in your submission and we will confirm the schedule before starting.
How do we send a case?
Upload scans and bite records through our Send a Case form. You receive design delivery and revision tracking by email — no plugins or software to install.

Have coping cases to outsource?

Send the scans with your margin specification — we will confirm the design path and delivery time within one working day.
